What happens when you combine snow with a little bit of free time … ? Nostalgia.
As a kid growing up, snow days were always such an exciting time. Maybe it was the fact that the biggest decision of my day would be to either lay around and watch movies while drinking hot chocolate, or battle outside with my brother and sister in an epic snowball fight-to-the-death; maybe it was because snow days signaled a break in the monotony of (melodramatic) grueling five-day school weeks, and that was truly exciting.
It’s funny how as we grow older, our definition of “excitement” tends to change a bit. Excitement could mean saving a few extra vacation days to take a long weekend visiting family in New Jersey, paying off your first school loan, or maybe even landing a new job with a great company. And, if I am being completely honest with myself, I can’t even begin to describe the joy it brings me when I finally finish modeling a parametric family in Revit. While joy, happiness, and excitement are all generally subjective terms, the important thing to remember is that these little reminders are what make the day-to-day grind truly great, and they are what make all the hard work and dedication worth it. So, as most of the Northeast Corridor continues to be pelted with snow into the evening, take a moment to channel your inner child and remember a simpler time of joy and excitement.
And, I will now step down from my structurally reinforced soapbox – because those movies aren’t just going to watch themselves.
